2.3. Properties of service-oriented architecture

Properties of service-oriented architecture are the following:

  • independence of platform – service-oriented architecture enables integrating services independently of programming language, platform or business processes;
  • weak coupling – services are not bound to a specific user of the service and do not depend much on other services. This facilitates reuse of services;
  • composition of services – by combining (reusing) available services, it is possible to create services offering new functionality;
  • self-description – a syntactically correct and well described WSDL format service description is machine as well as human-readable;
  • universality – opening of internal information and functionality to other parties and reuse of services makes the parties universal.
